 UNC Mail: Basic Services Minimize

  • Campus Mail--

Inter-office/department is assigned the highest priority (along with First Class Mail) in sorting and delivery.  All campus mail must have a campus box number in the address, or it will be returned to the sender.

  • Incoming U.S. Mail--

Mail is received two times daily (7:00am and 9:45am) from the U.S. Post Office on Estes Drive (942-4179).  This mail is delivered, as soon as it is sorted, to each University department.

  • Outgoing U.S. Mail--

Collected daily from collection boxes (check your box for delivery and pick-up times) throughout the University.  It is then brought to Hamilton Hall for posting.  All mail is metered on the same day collected, then sorted and bar coded by private contractor.  It is put directly on the outbound Postal Service trucks no later than 8:00pm the same day, if the mail is automation compatible. If not, it goes to the Post Office the following morning. All services provided by the Postal Service are available through University Mail Services (certified, business reply, e.g.).

  • Bulk Mailing--

Large volume campus mailings must be separated and banded according to Shop Codes and then by Campus Box Numbers.  Mailing lists or labels containing the Codes are available by calling Human Resources at 962-2553, Printing & Duplicating at 962-5956 or AIS at 966-5823.  Mailing lists already arranged in CB# sequence are available from Printing and Duplicating (962-2182).

Bulk mailing outgoing U.S. Mail is also available under our non-profit permit.  Before getting your envelopes printed, please contact the mail center to discuss having the permit number printed on each piece.  Call 962-1139 for specific guidelines.

  • Messenger Service--

Due to the State budget reduction, the Campus Mail messenger service has been eliminated.
