
Greg Kopsch is the Carolina North Forest Manager. Educated as a landscape architect, Greg brings more than 16 years of landscape design and construction experience to bear on the active management program, including 5 years as a Grounds Manager at North Carolina State University.
While at NCSU, Greg managed more than 250 acres of main campus open public space, implemented the Landscape Construction Services program, developed an integrated vegetation management plan and lead stormwater management initiatives. He is experienced in erosion control and stream restoration projects, and has completed various management & leadership training programs. A practicing landscape designer, Greg is also a North Carolina Registered Landscape Contractor and certified North Carolina Stormwater BMP Inspector.
Greg reports to UNC's Campus Arborist, Tom Bythell, UNC's Director of Grounds Management, Kirk Pelland, and UNC's Vice Chancellor for Research & Economic Development, Tony Waldrop.
Jerry McGovern is the Carolina North Forest Technician. Jerry came to UNC from the Department of Cultural Resources, where he was the Superintendent of Grounds at Roanoke Island Festival Park. He was in charge of marsh management and headed up the reforestation efforts of Ice Plant Island. He also served and coordinated environmental education programs at the Park. Prior to joining the staff at the Festival Park, Jerry worked at the North Carolina Arboretum in Asheville NC, where he was the curator of the Native Species Garden and was responsible for the upkeep of the Quilt Garden. Jerry also worked for East Carolina University, where he was a Groundsworker.
