Fact Sheet - Clear, Brown, and Green/Blue Glass

Fact: Every adult in the United States uses an average of 170 glass containers a year.

Fact: For every pound of recycled glass that goes to a glass factory, a pound of new bottles and jars is created.

Fact: One North Carolina community has determined that it can save one quarter million cubic feet of landfill space just by recycling glass bottles and jars.

Source Reduction: The use of refillable bottles reduces the need for glass production. This same effect can also be accomplished by making glass bottles and jars lighter.

***** Contaminants of glass recycling include laboratory glass, dish/cookware, ceramics, and plate glass *****
