WHEREAS, there are currently no recycling bins for bottles, cans, and plastic cups at athletic events, and there is no set policy for their separation from other trash during facility clean-up; and
WHEREAS, the University’s mission is, in part, “to serve all the people of the State, and indeed the nation…to improve the condition of human life through service…[and] address, as appropriate, regional, national, and international needs;” and
WHEREAS, the reduction of waste from athletic events will tangibly improve the relationship of the University and the condition of human life in our region by slowing the fill of landfills;
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE STUDENT CONGRESS OF THE UNIVERSITY OF NORTH CAROLINA AT CHAPEL HILL THAT:
Student Congress supports and encourages the implementation of recycling programs to athletic events at the University.
Rider: Upon passage of this resolution, a copy of this measure will be sent to Mike Bunting, Outdoor Facility Operations; Connie Conway, Athletic Association; Dean Bresciani, Interim Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs; Dick Baddour, Director of Athletics.
