Special Events Recycling

Focus of group

  • Goals
  • Type of events
  • Resources provided by OWRR
  • Operationally…how
  • Contacts w/ event planners and athletics
  • Cleaning procedures for events (athletics especially) – what is allowed when
  • Notification of events to group members – scheduling
  • Procedures to follow for events
  • NAPCOR information – pilot projects/operational strategies
  • Moving toward zero waste events

Waste Assessments

See first-hand how things run operationally

  • What waste is produced as people enter the stadium
  • What’s left in stadium after event …what type of waste
  • When is the stadium normally cleaned after event (same day/next day)
  • When is the best time for us to do a sweep

  Materials to target

  • Plastic bottles (water & liquor bottles)
  • Stadium cups
  • Any other type of bottle or can (plastic, glass or metal)

Additional goals for future events

  Target compostable items

  • Paper and food waste (how do we collect)

  Work with vendors

  • serve items in re-useable, compostable or recyclable containers

  Operational improvements

  •  Providing containers inside the stadium for Bottle & Can recycling (address contamination issues)

  • Get input from NAPCOR run pilot-projects
